The strength of our school relies on the support from the local community, and in turn, our support of the local community strengthens our school.

Currently, we employee 23 members of the community at the school.

The roles vary from head teachers, teachers, a matron, patron, cooks, cleaner, security and repair personnel, donkey man, and supply/purchasing agent. Each employee is a proud and dedicated service worker that gives daily to improve the lives of the children at the Okari School.

We purchase all our supplies from local vendors and storekeepers. On a recent trip to the school, we visited all the suppliers and thanked them. Our school has been open for over four years. During that time there were some months we were not able to pay our vendors on time—yet they had faith that we would pay them when we could. And we did. We are grateful for their grace and patience. Our school would not be a success with out their assistance.

The Town Elders are an integral part of the Okari School. The land for our school was donated by them and we salute their support and dedication to the success of our program and the children.

We also appreciate the efforts of the Deputy Commissioner who works in cooperation with our program to ensure safety for all the children and staff.

We support the local soapstone carvers in Kenya by exporting their beautiful carvings and selling them to profit the school.
Students who attend the following colleges have completed internships at the Okari School: Georgetown University, University of Virginia, Johns Hopkins, University of New Hampshire, Notre Dame, Boston College, Simmons College, Tulane University, Plymouth State College, and Endicott College. Each student assists with fundraising initiatives before and after their visit to the school and brings a unique set of talents to the school. Each student can attest to the fact that the Okari School has taught them some life lessons that ripple beyond the walls of the Okari School and across cultural lines.
